The government is poised to approve the use of a two-shot Taser this month despite concerns about the use of stun guns.
If deployed, the Taser X2 would allow police to take a second shot at a target if they miss, or hit two suspects, whereas the current Taser model only allows for one shot.
There have been concerns raised about the use of the weapon after the death of Dalian Atkinson. The 48-year-old former Aston Villa footballer died after police shot him with a 50,000-volt Taser following an altercation at his father’s home. Two police officers are under criminal investigation over the death of Atkinson, who is believed to have had kidney and heart problems.
